Air NZ project – Community Business & Environment Centre – Whangarei
  • System Size: 32.23 kWp
  • No. of Panels: 70 (460Wp)
  • Inverters: 2x Sungrow SH10RT Inverter
  • Battery: 2x Sungrow SBR256 Batteries 51.2kWh

Air New Zealand and Lightforce Solar have now finished installing more than $600,000 of solar panel energy and back-up batteries into Northland – in Whangarei’s CBEC community centre ($183k, 20kW plus back-up batteries, estimated to generate 39,692kWh per year which is126% of CBEC’s power annually, and Kaitaia’s Te Ahu ($427k, 125kW solar system plus 44.8kWh batteries and estimated to generate 108,512kWh which is 181% of Te Ahu’s power annually, and the annual CO2 reduction is 3580.896kg).  These projects aim to support greater energy security and climate resilience in Northland, as well as helping with lower power bills in two key community facilities.

The solar projects were funded by Air New Zealand’s Climate and Nature Fund, which is paid for through an internal carbon charge on Air New Zealand’s longest international flights (Houston, New York and Chicago), plus any profits from the airline’s Z Energy partnership. The Climate and Nature Fund is ringfenced for sustainability efforts across four areas: reducing carbon emissions, increasing renewable energy, expanding the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) supply, and enhancing internal sustainability.

Lightforce Solar has proudly served the New Zealand solar market for more than a decade, earning the trust of homeowners across the country.  As a fully in-house solar company, Lightforce Solar has a Northland-based team who have worked with both Air New Zealand and the facilities to from initial design to installation and ongoing support.
