How do I calculate the capacity of the solar system for my home?

When it comes to solar system capacity, we talk about the kW rating, which is the maximum amount of energy the system can generate at its peak output. For a home solar system this would usually be a system with an output of 3kW – 10kW. Businesses would usually require systems with 10kw and higher.
Other factors to consider are your budget, the amount of optimal roof space you have for solar panels, your energy usage and whether you are wanting to simply supplement your energy use or rely pretty much entirely on solar power.
When it comes to getting the optimum value from your solar system, you will want its capacity to closely match your home’s power usage. The other thing to consider is your future energy needs, if the size of your household is to grow, if you get an EV you want to charge at home and or if you’re thinking of adding an extra fridge, freezer or spa pool etc. Your solar system can be adapted in future to your needs but it’s good to plan ahead so you’re getting a system that works best for your energy needs.
